Medical MicroNeedling

What is it and how does Microneedling work?
A minimally-invasive procedure that involves using tiny needles to penetrate the skin initiating the body's natural healing process. The body produces and releases more collagen (a key component of the skin that is naturally lost over time) and elastin during this healing process which leads to an improved appearance of the skin. It is safe, effective and suitable for all skin types.

Why use the Raffine micro needling pen?
Raffine is a CE Medical automatic microneedle therapy system, ideal for the non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of various skin conditions such as ageing (wrinkles, stretching), scarring (acne, surgical), and hyperpigmentation. It is Medical CE certified and has undergone many trials.
Raffine is safe, effective and suitable for all skin types. It can be used all over the face and body to stimulate the natural production of new collagen and elastin, thereby smoothing wrinkles and scars in just a few short treatments.
The Raffine device is far more advanced than MTS (Dermaroller Type needling). Clinical studies have shown them to be more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels.Raffine is also just as effective as non-ablative treatments like IPL, CO2 Laser, and Fraxel in stimulating collagen and elastin production.

Is it painful?
With microneedling, there will always be a certain level of pain because it involves needles piercing the skin. But how intense it is, is entirely subjective. Generally most people only experience slight discomfort. The needles used in the procedure are very small and the wounds are extremely shallow, meaning you'll feel very little and the wounds heal quickly. It is this healing effect that gives your skin the vital collagen boost that causes the rejuvenated skin and reduced imperfections. At Skin Studio, we do not use topical local anaesthetic (numbing cream) because it's been found to take vital blood and oxygen from the skin meaning the skin will not benefit as much from the treatment and therefore slows down the healing process. In certain situations where a deeper depth treatment is required, topical local anaesthetic will be offered. It is of course absolutely fine for you to use your own anaesthetic prior to treatment if desired but please inform us of this so we can get the timings right for you.

What conditions can be treated?
• Acne and skin scars
• Wrinkles
• Thinning hair and alopecia
• Skin tone and enlarged pores
• Hyperpigmentation
• Collagen induction
• Skin rejuvenation
• Face lifting
• Cellulite and stretch marks

Why is in-clinic needling better than at home?
At home kits generally only use needles that are 0.5mm. Microneedling with needles longer than 0.5mm create more controlled wounding and more noticeable results. More than 0.5mm should only ever be carried out by a trained medical professional.

When will I start to see results?
Redness or your skin turning a bit pink is to be expected so do not worry if you look 'sunburnt', It may take a few days to start to notice the benefits. Optimal results may take 4-6 weeks, that's roughly the amount of time that it takes for collagen to develop fully. It also takes about a month for the skin cells to turn over entirely, from start to finish. Microneedling is recommend as a course of treatments, rather than a one off to ensure consistently good results. We recommend leaving 4-6 weeks between treatments. The number of sessions will depend on the individual skin condition.

Who isn't suitable?
• You have active acne.
• You have an active herpes outbreak or another localised infection in the treatment area, such as warts.
• You have a moderate-to-severe chronic skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis.
• You have keloidal tendencies or tend to develop raised scars on your skin.
• You are going through chemotherapy or are immunosuppressed due to another medication or condition.
• You have a bleeding or clotting disorder or you are taking a blood thinner.

Is it painful?

How long do results last?

In inital studies patients were still satisfied after 6 months. for most, the internal changes can last 9-12 months. Like all muscles, pelvic muscles start to sag without continued exercise and ageing and gravity are constantly working against the anatomy. As it is impossible for a person to perform thousands of kegels, maintenance treatments are recommended.

When will I see results?
This depends on age, physical condition and many other aspects. In general you should begin to feel tangible results right after the treatment. Positive results typically continue to improve over a number of weeks. In around 5% of people their symptoms may worsen briefly before improving.
